Tottenham fans all say the same about Declan Rice interview ahead of North London derby
Declan Rice has become the laughing stock of the North London derby before Tottenham take on Arsenal on Sunday.
It will be Igor Tudor‘s first game in charge at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on 22 February, and what a debut it is for the former Juventus boss, who was appointed just six days ago.
While the Lilywhites are in a relegation battle, sitting five points above the dropzone, Mikel Arteta‘s side are aiming to win the club’s first Premier League title since the 2003-04 season.
Having dropped two points against Wolves, Man City and Aston Villa have both been given confidence of catching up to the league leaders, so the North London derby will be crucial for the Gunners.
The Arsenal players are being accused of bottling the league title to Pep Guardiola’s side once again, and now, many are criticising Rice for his interview ahead of the game.
Declan Rice accused of having wrong mindset ahead of North London derby
With Rice saying that Arsenal “can’t lose” the local derby, rather than it being a “must-win,” Spurs fans believe the result could go either way, with their rivals buckling under the pressure.
Many fans believe that “another draw is loading,” while another supporter suggested that the Gunners are “there for the taking” when they welcome Arsenal to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Rice’s captaincy has also been questioned, with the England international often tipped to take the armband off Martin Odegaard, but Arteta might think twice after this interview.
- @Daily_Hotspur: “‘You can’t lose’ instead of ‘must win’… There’s your answer.”
- @Carmello_CEO: “This is why I always laugh when people mention him to be captain.”
- @ChukyUnfazed: “They are always talking about not losing, we are talking about winning all your games, and they keep talking about not losing. This is the mentality that has seen them drop so many points.”
Igor Tudor has not enjoyed his first week as Tottenham boss
Tudor has been at the helm for just six days – not very long to prepare for a North London derby.
In a rather honest assessment, he revealed that he is “not here to enjoy” but rather “here to work,” with Spurs doing everything in their power to avoid relegation down to the Championship.
Arteta is also under pressure at the Emirates Stadium, in desperate need of lifting silverware, having not done so since his first year in charge, beating Chelsea to the FA Cup trophy at Wembley Stadium.
A lot rides on Sunday’s meeting, and that’s just putting it lightly. Emotions could fly, tempers could spark. Very few would want to be in Peter Bankes’ shoes.
