'So deserved' - Tottenham fans delighted after first teamer receives international call-up

Tottenham supporters have expressed their delight on social media after it was confirmed that midfielder Harry Winks has been promoted to the England senior squad.

The 21-year-old’s place in the national squad was confirmed on Monday evening on England’s official Twitter account after Manchester City’s Fabian Delph and Manchester United’s Phil Jones withdrew due to injury.

The youngster was originally named in the Under-21 national squad to face Scotland and Andorra in the upcoming European Championship qualifiers.

Winks’ inclusion now means that he has earned his first official call-up to the England senior squad.

Spurs fans were quick to take to social media when the news broke and the majority believe that the midfielder deserves his chance to shine in Gareth Southgate’s side.

Winks made his breakthrough into the Spurs first-team last season, featuring in 33 matches in all competitions and impressing with his high energy performances in the midfield.

After recovering from a terrible ankle injury, the midfielder completed 90 minutes for the first time in the Premier League this season in the 4-0 win away at newly-promoted Huddersfield Town.

Winks could now feature for England as they look to seal World Cup qualification in upcoming matches against Slovenia and Lithuania.
