Tottenham fans demand ENIC sell the club as Auckland FC friendly confirmed: ‘This is surely a joke?’
Tottenham Hotspur fans are pushing for ENIC to sell the club after a pre-season friendly against Auckland FC was announced on Sunday.
The Lilywhites confirmed that they will line up against the New Zealand outfit as part of their pre-season tour on 26 July, in a clash that will follow games against Sydney FC and Chelsea in Australia.
The North Londoners are set to travel to New Zealand for a game for the first time since 1976, but it is not a decision that has been met with enthusiasm from the supporters.
Spurs are currently staring down the barrel of a potential relegation from the Premier League, and they are set to be fighting for their lives until the very last kick of the season.
ENIC have backed Tottenham financially for several years now, but the fans have grown increasingly frustrated towards the Lewis family since the start of the campaign.

Tottenham are already putting plans in place for their pre-season preparations ahead of next term, but there is major uncertainty surrounding which league they will find themselves in for 2026-27.
They are currently outside the relegation zone by just one point, and they only have seven games remaining to pull themselves clear of the drop and away from an embarrassing fate.
| Opponents | Date | Location |
| Auckland FC | 26 July | Eden Park, Auckland, New Zealand |
| Sydney FC | 29 July | Allianz Stadium, Sydney, Australia |
| Chelsea | 1 August | Accor Stadium, Sydney, Australia |
Their supporters have quickly decided that it is a bad look for the club to be announcing high-profile friendlies before their Premier League status is even secure, and they have wasted no time in aiming their criticism.
Fans took to X to rip into the owners and the rest of the club hierarchy, with many feeling that the announcement was out of touch with the current situation on the pitch.
Several fans called for ENIC to sell the club, as many replies to the club featured the hashtag: “ENICout.”
One supporter replied with “This is surely a joke?” While another simply wrote: “The people running our club have to be having a laugh surely?”
There were also several supporters who slammed the timing of the announcement, as the Lilywhites were repeatedly told to “read the room.”
- @MikeyHotspurs: “Give it a rest and stay up please.”
- @JamesReed28: “The brass neck of this. Read the room.”
- @jomacofficial: “Honestly, every time this club posts I’m lost for words. Couldn’t be more disconnected from the fans if you tried.”
Keith Wyness spots lack of harmony in Spurs hierarchy
Former Everton and Aston Villa chief executive Keith Wyness recently told Football Insider that there is a “blame game” going on behind the scenes at Tottenham, with none of the hierarchy wanting to take responsibility.
The Scottish businessman has suggested that there is no harmony among those at the top of the club at the moment, with key figures reluctant to take accountability for the way the campaign has unfolded.
Wyness revealed that he believes there are still lasting issues from Daniel Levy’s tenure in charge in North London, and chief executive Vinai Venkatesham has been unable to resolve them so far.
The board are now set to come together once again in order to finalise the appointment of the club’s next manager, and if they get that decision wrong, then it could have a truly catastrophic effect for them long-term.
