Tottenham fans furious at Pochettino selection against Fulham
By Harry Sykes
Marcus Edwards was omitted from the Tottenham squad for their FA Cup win over Fulham on Sunday – and fans took to Twitter to express their fury.
But manager Mauricio Pochettino picked a virtual full-strength starting XI and a strong substitute’s bench, and the players responded with a convincing 3-0 victory.
Harry Kane, who captained the side in the absence of Hugo Lloris, scored a clinical hat-trick as Spurs bounced back from consecutive defeats at the hands of Liverpool and Gent.
But Tottenham supporters were disappointed they did not get a glimpse of Edwards, who has earned rave reviews for his performances in youth-team football.
Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:
Edwards has recently returned to full fitness after more than three months on the sidelines with an ankle injury.
The playmaker scored for Spurs’ Under-23s on his comeback against Liverpool two weeks ago, 24 hours after being on the coach with the senior players ahead of their home league win against Middlesbrough.
Edwards, who has been likened to a young Lionel Messi by Pochettino for his stature and style of play, is yet to make his league bow, with his first-team action restricted to a 15-minute runout as a substitute against Gillingham in September.
