Tottenham fans have gone berserk on Twitter after it was reported that Mauricio Pochettino is closing in on making Ben Wilmot his first signing of the January transfer window from League Two side Stevenage.
The Mirror claimed in their live transfer blog on Sunday [08:39pm] that Wilmot, 18, is heading to the Premier League this month in a deal worth £850,000 with Spurs “confident” of beating the competitions to his signature.
Liverpool, Leicester, Brighton and Southampton are also said to have been interested in Wilmot, but it is Tottenham who have seemingly won the race.
However Spurs fans on Twitter are not at all happy that Pochettino has looked to sign a youngster rather than bolstering his first-team.
One angry supporter claimed that the swoop for Wilmot shows a “lack of ambition” in comparison to other top Premier League sides willing to spend the big bucks.
Here is a selection of their tweets:
Can fully understand some fans being upset that Spurs allegedly going for 18 year old Stevenage unknown Ben Wilmot for £850k when our rivals are spending big bucks, seems to show lack of ambition, but there is still couple weeks of window left. #COYS #THFC

Wilmot made his professional debut for Stevenage in October when he played against MK Dons in the EFL Cup.
In total, the 18-year-old defender has made four appearances for the League Two club in all competitions, but is yet to play in the league itself.
Tottenham are yet to confirm the arrival of anyone but have had one departure from the first-team when Georges-Kevin N’Koudou joined Burnley on loan.
In other Tottenham news, Spurs are favourites to seal a swoop for this goalscoring midfielder in the form of his life.
