'Noooooooooo', 'Levy out' - Tottenham fans rage after Poch reportedly approves defender exit
By Richard Parks
Tottenham fans have taken to Twitter to express their anger and frustration after it was reported that Mauricio Pochettino has given the green light to sensationally sell Toby Alderweireld this summer.
The Times claim that talks between Spurs and the Belgium international over a new deal have reached a deadlock as the club have no intention of caving in to the player’s £150,000-a-week demands.
It is said that Spurs have tabled a final offer of £110,000-a-week to Alderweireld during talks last month that would make him one of the highest paid players at the club.
The Times report that the defender has not accepted the offer, leading the club to explore the possibility of a controversial summer sale.
Intriguingly, manager Mauricio Pochettino has now given the green light to sell Alderweireld, who turns 29 next week, in the forthcoming transfer window.
Spurs fans on social media are extremely concerned about the report, which they are taking very seriously, given the Times’ reputation and the widespread reports of a contract deadlock.
Many are blaming chairman Daniel Levy, who is the longstanding transfer and contract negotiator who controls the club’s purse strings.
Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Would be a massive loss and real concern it was bad enough losing Walker. But we don’t know what is going on behind closed doors. We don’t want to become a selling a club when we are reaching the peak of something special.

Really hope that isn’t true.

The Times report that Tottenham recognise that this summer represents the last opportunity to sell Alderweireld for his full market value of £50million-plus given that his contract is due to expire in June 2019.
Spurs have the option to extend it for a further 12 months but a clause also allows the centre-back to leave next summer for £25.4million before the final 14 days of the transfer window.
Alderweireld returned at the end of last month after three months out with a hamstring injury.
He has made two appearances in the FA Cup but is yet to return to the Premier League or Champions League starting XI.
