Tottenham fans rage at Pochettino selection as 23-year-old starts for Stoke clash

By Amir Mir

Eric Dier starts for Tottenham against Stoke in their Premier League clash at White Hart Lane – and fans on Twitter are fuming at his selection.

The 23-year-old centre-back has been criticised in recent weeks for his performances while playing in a back three.

During the club’s recent league game, which they lost 2-0 at Anfield, Dier was at fault for the second goal conceded on the night.

Furthermore, he made another mistake on Thursday night as Spurs were knocked out of the Europa League by Belgian outfit Gent.

As a result, the supporters believe he should not be starting as certain sections wanted Kevin Wimmer to start instead.

One fan asked why manager Mauricio Pochettino keeps persisting with Dier as they raged at his selection.

Overall, supporters were not happy that the England international was in the playing XI as they believe his qualities do not suit him playing in a back three.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Pochettino’s side are third in the Premier League table on 50 points from their 25 games, one point ahead of fifth-placed Liverpool.

During the club’s last league fixture just over a fortnight ago, Jurgen Klopp’s side inflicted a 2-0 defeat on the London club at Anfield.

However, they will be hoping to build upon and use their unbeaten home record to see off the danger of Mark Hughes’ side today.

Spurs have beaten the likes of Chelsea, West Ham and Manchester City in front of their own supporters this term.

In other Tottenham news, Martin Keown has issued this warning to Spurs fans and slammed this £50million duo.
