Tottenham fans react after club secure second reported midfielder deal in hours

By Harry Sykes

Finnish teenager Maximus Tainio has joined Tottenham – and Spurs fans on Twitter are delighted that he has followed in the footsteps of his famous father.

Finland big hitters HJK Helsinki confirmed on their official club website on Monday afternoon that Tainio had completed a move to White Hart Lane.

The midfielder, 15, has agreed a two-year deal to join the Tottenham academy and will officially link up with the club in July.

Tainio is the son of former Spurs midfielder Teemu Tainio, who played 83 times for the north Londoners during his three years at the club between 2005 and 2008.

He is still remembered fondly by Tottenham fans, who took to Twitter on Monday afternoon to express hope that his son can make a similar impact.

News of the teenager’s move to Tottenham comes on the same day that midfielder Tom Carroll puts the finishing touches to a transfer to Premier League rivals Swansea.

The Welsh club’s manager Paul Clement revealed at the weekend that Carroll’s arrival at the Liberty Stadium was “imminent” following extensive talks between the clubs.

ESPN FC journalist Pete O’Rourke claimed on his Twitter account on Monday that Carroll was “finalising his medical” at Swansea.

The 24-year-old former England Under-21 international has been a bit-part player at Tottenham this season, featuring just three times and failing to make the matchday squad since October.
