Toby Alderweireld has declared himself fit for the north London derby tomorrow (Saturday) – and Tottenham fans have expressed their delight on Twitter.

The Spurs defender explained to the media in the aftermath of his comeback in the FA Cup win against Newport County on Wednesday night that he is fully recovered from the hamstring injury that sidelined him for three months and is confident he can play against his side’s bitter rivals less than three days later.

“Yeah, I feel very good, after 90 minutes, I worked very hard to play those kind of games and be ready and I feel very good,” said Alderweireld, as quoted by the Daily Mail.

Alderweireld played the whole 90 minutes of the game against Newport, but was hardly tested as Spurs cruised to a 2-0 victory against the League Two side.

It’s now up to Mauricio Pochettino on whether to recall the player widely regarded by Tottenham fans as their outstanding centre-back or to hold him back for the Champions League clash against Juventus next Tuesday.

One supporter took to Twitter to urge the Spurs manager to throw his usual caution into the wind and play Alderweireld against Arsenal as they desperately need him.

Others insisted that it is a huge boost the Belgium international is confident he can last the pace in such a marquee fixture.
