Tottenham fans react on Twitter to Dier display v West Ham

By Dominic Toner

Tottenham suffered a crushing 1-0 away defeat to West Ham on Friday night – and the club’s supporters were particularly unpleased with the performance of Eric Dier on Twitter.

The 23-year-old played in the midfielder alongside Victor Wanyama and they were unable to dominate the game at the London Stadium.

The Hammers secured the three points due to Manuel Lanzini’s second-half goal and dealt a massive blow to Spurs’ title chances.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side could have moved just a point behind Premier League leaders Chelsea, but instead are still four points adrift.

The result means that Chelsea need just two victories from their remaining four games to be crowned champions and they have a favourable run-in.

Spurs fans were bitterly disappointed on social media after the defeat and highlighted Dier for his poor display.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Dier turned in one of his poorer performances of the season on Friday and was unable to inspire his side to victory.

The England international has been used in several positions by Pochettino this campaign, including as a centre-back and a defensive midfielder.

He was tasked with the latter against West Ham, but came up against a determined Hammers midfield.

Spurs’ nine-game winning run in the Premier League was halted by their London rivals and it could be the end of their title dream for another season.
