Tottenham fans react on Twitter after emerging stars suffer defeat to Chelsea

Tottenham are still in with a chance of reaching the FA Youth Cup final despite their semi-final first-leg defeat to Chelsea – but supporters on Twitter are sceptical about the possibility.

Spurs Under-18s lost 2-1 to their bitter rivals at White Hart Lane on Tuesday night after a second-half comeback kept the tie finely balanced.

Chelsea took a 2-0 half-time courtesy of headers from Reece James and Ike Ugbo but Kazaiah Sterling snatched a late goal and Luke McCormick missed a stoppage-time penalty for the visitors.

Sterling, 18, lifted his tally to five goals in six FA Youth Cup matches this season to provide further evidence of the talent that has prompted first-team manager Mauricio Pochettino to identify him as one for the future.

Tottenham will make the short journey to Stamford Bridge for the Youth Cup second leg on Saturday evening as they aim to beat the holders in their own backyard to reach the final.

Supporters took to social media to give their verdicts on the result of the first leg and the chances of a stunning second-leg triumph.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Spurs’ Under-18s showdown against Chelsea is a two-legged affair, with Tuesday’s first leg broadcast on ITV4.
