Tottenham fans react to report club have all but sealed first big summer signing

By Harry Sykes

Tottenham have reportedly already decided to sign Pau Lopez permanently this summer – and fans have given mixed verdicts on Twitter.

Spanish newspaper Sport claim manager Mauricio Pochettino has been so impressed by the third-choice goalkeeper, 22, that he has given the go-ahead to Spurs activating the clause in his loan deal to buy him from Espanyol.

It is said that Pochettino has already made the decision to land Lopez even though the deadline initially agreed by the two clubs last summer is between April and May.

Sport report that the transfer fee will £6million, which will take the total cost of the deal including the loan fee to £6.5million.

It appears the groundwork has been laid for Spurs to make Lopez their first big summer signing.

The club already have an embarrassment of keeping riches in the shapes of No1 Hugo Lloris, his deputy Michel Vorm and young gun Luke McGhee, who is currently on a season-long loan at League One club Peterborough.

Spurs fans on social media believe that the signing of Lopez could mean Lloris will leave White Hart Lane in the summer, while others point out that Vorm is at the veteran stage of his career.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Spanish goalkeeper Lopez moved to White Hart Lane last summer on a loan-to-buy deal, which included the option for the London giants to sign him permanently.

He is yet to make a first-team appearance but Sport claim Tottenham’s coaching staff have been impressed by his development and willingness to adapt to the team’s playing style.

In other Tottenham news, Daniel Levy has lined up the next Spurs arrival as the deal is all but done.
