Tottenham fans react on Twitter as midfielder deal confirmed

By Emma Sanders

Tottenham fans gave former player Tom Carroll a great send-off on Twitter after the club confirmed he had left to join Swansea on a permanent deal.

Carroll was once regarded by many as a promising young talent but his progression has slowed down in recent months and he was no longer considered part of Mauricio Pochettino’s future plans.

The club’s official Twitter account revealed the news on Tuesday afternoon after the midfielder had sealed a deal to re-join the team he spent a year on loan with in the 2014/15 season.

Some supporters believe it was right to let the 24-year-old leave and all of them wished him luck at his new club.

Here is a selection of the messages on Twitter:

Carroll has made just one substitute appearance in the Premier League this season and that was back in August during 1-0 victory against Crystal Palace and he was barely on the field for a minute before the full-time whistle went.

He started both EFL Cup clashes against Gillingham and Liverpool but his last appearance came during the 2-1 defeat at Anfield in October.

The midfielder progressed from Spurs’ academy and spent several seasons on loan with a number of clubs, including Swansea before making a breakthrough into the first team in 2015.

He made 30 appearances in all competitions last season, including 19 appearances in the Premier League – though only four from the starting line-up.

In other Tottenham news, Jan Vertonghen could be out of action for a lengthy period.
