Tottenham fans react to Walker-Peters display in win v Newcastle
By Danny Wright
Tottenham fans have hailed Kyle Walker-Peters after his solid display helped his side to a 2-0 victory over newly-promoted Newcastle at St. James’ Park on Sunday.
The 20-year-old had been drafted in to play at right-back following the injury to Kieran Trippier, who has been left without a back-up option in the wake of Kyle Walker’s big-money switch to Manchester City earlier this summer.
Walker-Peters had never played for the Spurs senior squad before Sunday’s trip to Tyneside, but showed that he had the mental ability to be able to cope with the pressure of Premier League football as he formed part of the backline that kept an emphatic clean sheet.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side were helped out in their bid to get off to a winning start when Jonjo Shelvey was shown a straight red card for what appeared to be a stamp on Dele Alli.
Spurs’ England international dusted himself off to open the scoring in the 61st minute before Ben Davies doubled the Londoners’ lead nine minutes later.
