France international manager Didier Deschamps has said that Tottenham midfielder Moussa Sissoko is “feared by his opponents” during an interview on French radio.
The World Cup winner described his fellow Frenchman as a “soldier” as he went on to wax lyrical about the Spurs ace who is expected to play a key role in the France squad in this summer’s World Cup finals.
Speaking to French station SFR and as quoted by talkSPORT, the former Chelsea stalwart said: “I like Moussa Sissoko. He is not my ‘favourite’, I appreciate what he does.
“Moussa, he is the prototype of a soldier.
“He was the soldier of [former coach Alain] Casanova at Toulouse, he is Pochettino’s soldier at Tottenham, even if it was more complicated at the start.
“One just has to look at the Euro final to see what Moussa Sissoko is capable of.
“He gives, he gives. He is very appreciated by his team-mates and feared by his opponents.”
However, following the interview that Descamps gave to the French station, fans of the Lillywhites have reacted to the ex-midfielder’s comments with some hilarious Tweets.
One supporter sarcastically said that, ‘And I’m feared by the Incredible Hulk,’ and another response was, ‘Best laugh I’ve had today.’
Sissoko has been for the most part a mainstay in Mauricio Pochettino’s side throughout his time in North London since his switch from Newcastle United for £30million back in the summer of 2016 – at the time a club record signing.
The 28-year-old was widely criticised for his performance against Rochdale at the weekend as he failed to impress against their League One opponents, along with Fernando Llorente.
Statistically speaking, the Frenchman doesn’t exactly excite either; two goals and eight assists to his name are meagre figures, to say the least.
