‘Liability’, ‘We’ve been hoodwinked’ – Tottenham fans tear into player despite win v Stoke

Tottenham fans have slammed Serge Aurier for his performance in the 2-1 win against Stoke at the Bet365 Stadium on Saturday.

Aurier, 25, was back in Mauricio Pochettino’s starting line-up to replace Kieran Trippier at right-back, however the Ivory Coast international did little to prove that he should be the main man in that position with a below-par display.

The former Paris Saint-Germain full-back was an unused substitute in the win against Chelsea last week but in his last outing he scored and supplied an assist in the 4-1 win at Bournemouth.

But at Stoke on Saturday, fans were less than impressed with Aurier, with many of them tearing into him for his poor delivery from the wide areas.

One angry Spurs supporters claimed that the club were “hoodwinked” when they signed him for £23million in the summer.

Here is a selection of their tweets:

Aurier has made 23 appearances in all competitions for Tottenham this season after he arrived from French titans PSG.

In his outings he has scored two goals and supplied three assists, and for the way that Pochettino uses his full-backs, it may be fair to suggest that Aurier should be creating more chances for his team-mates to put away.

Pochettino has rotated his full-backs often this season and it seems likely that Trippier will be back in to play against Manchester City next week.

In other Tottenham news, Spurs will open talks over offloading this first-team star if they receive a ‘Coutinho-sized fee’.
