Tottenham fans urge Pochettino to start discard against Southampton

Tottenham fans have taken to Twitter urging Mauricio Pochettino to start Vincent Janssen in Sunday’s Premier League clash against Southampton.

In the absence of the injured Kane, Son Heung-Min is the favourite to spearhead the Spurs attack in the White Hart Lane encounter, which kicks off at 2.15pm.

Son scored a hat-trick last weekend as Tottenham annihilated third-tier Millwall in the FA Cup and eased into the semi-finals of the competition, where they face a showdown against rivals Chelsea.

Kane is hoping to be back for that encounter on 22 April but Spurs face a lengthy spell without the man who has scored 19 Premier League goals this season.

Supporters took to social media in the build-up to the clash against Southampton expressing hope that Dutch striker Janssen, who has been discarded to the sidelines in recent months, is handed a recall to the team.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Pochettino admitted on Friday that the striker has had a “difficult” debut campaign at Spurs as he struggled to adapt following his £18million transfer from AZ Alkmaar.

But the Argentine insisted that the coaching staff are still “happy” with Janssen and that he is ready for more game time now Kane has been ruled out for around a month with ankle ligament damage.

Janssen scored his first goal from open play last weekend in the demolition of Millwall, but his total haul of five from 30 appearances – four of which have been penalties – has not lived up to expectations following his 32 goals for AZ last season.
