Tottenham fans have taken to Twitter to call for Eric Dier to be axed for Saturday lunchtime’s north London derby against Arsenal.
The England international, 24, has been a mainstay of the team this season, swapping between central defence and central midfield on a virtual match-by-match basis.
Dier has made 34 appearances in all competitions for Spurs, including 25 Premier League and five Champions League starts.
Manager Mauricio Pochettino has an abundance of options going into the Wembley lunchtime kick-off against Arsene Wenger’s side, with nearly all of his senior players fit and available.
Toy Alderweireld, arguably the team’s outstanding centre-back, made his comeback in the midweek FA Cup triumph over Newport County and Victor Wanyama is now fully recovered from the knee problem that sidelined him for the opening half of the season.
Many Spurs fans on social media called for Pochettino to include the likes of Alderweireld and Wanyama, and drop Dier from the team for the pivotal match.
