Tottenham fans 'will be going mental' after official statement, claims ex-Spur
Alan Hutton has admitted Tottenham fans will be “going mental” amid claims Harry Kane wants to leave this summer.
The former Spurs defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the Lilywhites were forced to issue a statement to alleviate the concern around supporters.
Football Insider first revealed Kane told friends he wanted to quit Tottenham back in April.
Sky Sports now report Kane has told Spurs he wants to be allowed to leave the club this summer.
In a statement relayed by the broadcaster, Tottenham said: “We have a season to finish and we want to finish it as strongly as possible. That’s all everyone should be focussing on.”
Hutton admitted it was unlike Spurs to address speculation publicly.

However, he suggested they had to make an exception due to Kane’s standing among supporters in north London.
“Timing’s never great when it comes to your top players but it’s got out somehow,” Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge.
“Harry Kane’s didn’t come out and say it so where did it come out from? That’s what I would be asking. He’s such a big player in terms of everything that he gives. Not just on the pitch but off the pitch.
“I think Tottenham have had to react quickly…the fans will be going mental at the moment. They’ll be panicking about what the direction the club are going in.
“They’ve not got a manager. Obviously, the squad has underperformed. They did well up to Christmas and then totally fell off. They’ve got their star player wanting to leave.
“I think they’ve had to react quite quickly to try and settle things down by saying let’s concentrate on the last couple of games of the season. It’s not like them to come out and say anything but when it comes to Harry Kane, they have to be seen doing something.”
Kane has scored 32 goals in 47 appearances for Spurs this season.
He still has another three years on his contract in north London.
