Tottenham guru expects '£20m' Joe Rodon transfer after terms agreed

Rennes may yet sign Tottenham loanee Joe Rodon on a permanent basis despite a poor start to life in France.

That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

Rodon’s move to Stade Rennais was confirmed on 1 August and it is understood that the club, who will play Europa League football this term, will have the option to make the switch permanent for a fee of £18million.

After a poor start to life in France, failing to win in any of his first three games, Rodon has now nailed down a starting position and has managed to score for the club during his seven league outings.

Wenham is hopeful this form will continue.

“Rodon has come back into the lineup in recent weeks to be fair,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“I first saw that he started in a 3-1 win over Brest (31 August) and got himself a goal. That was a big boost for him and should bring his confidence up and hopefully keep him in the squad.

“It would be ideal if he could stay in that starting XI now because we want him to do well and I hope at the end of this that Rennes will activate the £20million or so option to sign him on a permanent basis.

“Previously I said there is no way that would happen but you never know, things can change. Hopefully, he can continue to impress and there can be a deal that works for everyone.”

Rodon only made three Premier League appearances during the 2021-22 season.

Two of those came in the final three games of the season but he only accrued nine minutes of action in those outings.
