Julian Nagelsmann could be an “amazing” managerial appointment for Tottenham, according to Alex McLeish.

The former Scotland manager, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, lifted the lid on the “sensational” presentations he had seen from the RB Leipzig boss and his contemporaries.

As revealed by Football Insider, Tottenham have made contact with the 33-year-old after making him their number one managerial target.

Tottenham are hoping to steal a march on Nagelsmann’s other suitors by initiating talks now.

It is understood Bayern Munich are keen on the former Hoffenheim man as well.

The German giants are searching for a new manager after current incumbent Hansi Flick announced his intention to leave.

McLeish revealed he had been wowed by the level of analysis and tactical awareness shown by German managers both on and off the pitch.

As such, he suggested Nagelsmann would make an excellent successor to Mourinho.

McLeish told Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge: German coaches are obviously at a very high level. In recent years you’ve seen what (Jurgen) Klopp has come in and done.

“Also coaches in Germany, like (Ralph) Hasenhuttl, Bayern Munich’s Hansi Flick. These guys have all excelled in their managing and coaching careers.

“Nagelsmann has been around, he has been getting bandied about for a couple of years now.

“He’s 33 now, so he was 31 when I last heard him linked with Premier League jobs.

“It does seem amazing that you get a manager who’s barely older than some of your senior players coming to be your boss.

“I’ve seen some presentations of these guys working, PowerPoints etcetera. I’m not saying it’s all magic with mirrors. However, some of the presentations I have seen have been sensational.

“It’s not just about stats or fancy charts or anything like that. It is when they put their ideas on film and you see parts of their defending, their attacking. Those presentations for me are the best because you know that that guy has worked on that team to do that.”
