Tottenham insider tips Rodon for first league start this season v Newcastle after early team news

Joe Rodon can expect a first Premier League start of the season when Tottenham take on Newcastle on Sunday.

That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

Rodon, 23, has only made one substitute appearance in the Premier League this season but Tottenham after facing a headache over their international stars.

Before the international break, It had been agreed that players returning from countries ‘red listed’ by the UK would enter into 10 days of bespoke quarantine.

Tottenham were set to be without Cristian Romero for this weekend’s game as he is currently in Argentina representing his country.

However. Argentina has been taken off the red list, paving the way for Romero, and teammate Giovanni Lo Celso, to be available for Sunday’s clash.

The players still face a quick turnaround if they are to play and Wenham expects Rodon to come into the fold after impressing with Wales during the international break.

“If those players are going to miss the game, we still have a strong defence,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“Dier has started the season very well, better than a lot of people have given him credit for.

“We have Japhet Tanganga who I expect to come in at right-back with Emerson Royal unavailable.

“The back four will probably be Tanganga, Dier, then Rodon should come in, he’s been playing with Wales so he’s good to go.

“I’m a big fan of his, he really is a top youngster.

“Then Sergio Reguilon will come in as there should be no problem with his availability.

“That is still a very strong defence and one Newcastle will struggle to break down.

“It’s also an opportunity for some of those players, like Rodon, to stake a claim.”
