Tottenham may be forced into transfer U-turn amid major Pochettino update - pundit
Tottenham may be forced to pull a U-turn over letting Dele Alli leave if Mauricio Pochettino is appointed manager.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the Argentine boss would want to keep the attacking midfielder if he takes charge.
As revealed by Football Insider, Spurs have made contact with Pochettino over a return to north London, although there is growing pessimism over a potential deal.
This site has also detailed how Tottenham are open to offers for Alli, 25, this summer.
It is understood the attacking midfielder has been difficult to manage and Spurs are keen to find a permanent buyer for him.
However, Whelan suggested they may have to pull a U-turn if Pochettino is appointed manager.

Discussing Alli’s future, Whelan told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “That’s a decision for the manager to make. We were talking about Dele Alli going on loan to where? PSG.
“So we know that he was desperate to link back with Pochettino. Pochettino got the best out of him as a player and a person. So, if he does come back in, maybe we see the old Dele Alli.
“Maybe he wants to play for the manager again. If Pochettino comes in, that decision will be made by him. He’ll have a good talk with Dele Alli about trying to get him back to his best again and finding out where he is in his mind, and in his head.
“You can guarantee that if he comes back, you’ll have a very happy, smiley Dele Alli on your hands. It might be a player that you can control then. Everything comes down to manager.
“You’ve still got a player there that’s a commodity and could rase good funds for the club. You’ve might also have a real good player on your hands as well if you get the right manager.”
Alli started just seven times in 15 Premier League appearances during the 2020/21 campaign.
Five of those starts came under interim boss Ryan Mason.
