Ex-striker tells Tottenham to get rid as source reveals how tough Alli is to manage behind the scenes
Noel Whelan claims Tottenham are doing the right thing as they look to offload Dele Alli this summer.
The former Leeds hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested a parting of the ways would be mutually beneficial for Tottenham and their midfielder.
A Tottenham source has told Football Insider that the club will listen to offers for Alli, 25, in the upcoming window.
It is understood Alli is very difficult to manage behind the scenes and his return to the fold under Ryan Mason was partly to showcase his talent to potential buyers at an opportune time.
Alli only started seven Premier League games for Spurs this season.
However, he was in from the start in every one of the club’s last five games of the season.

He picked up an assist against Leeds United but Whelan was impressed with what he saw during that game.
The ex-Leeds striker claims Alli isn’t the same player he used to be and lacks his “devastating” instinct.
“From what I’ve seen, he doesn’t seem to be the same player he used to be,” Whelan told Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs.
“He doesn’t have that devastating animal instinct inside the box and he’s not been very effective outside the box.
“I think a change for both parties could bring that spark back into his game again. All players need that.
“The club aren’t getting enough out of him and I don’t think he’s needed at the moment.
“A fresh face and a new challenge for someone else coming into that role would be beneficial to Tottenham.”
In total, Alli made 29 appearances and scored three goals for Tottenham this season.
He also picked up five assists with three of them coming in the Europa League.
