Tottenham may complete Djed Spence deal for ‘drop in the ocean’ after source’s update – pundit
Noel Whelan has backed Tottenham to complete a deal with Middlesbrough for Djed Spence as the two clubs are just £1million in their valuation.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Boro and Leeds United forward claimed £1million is a “drop in the ocean” for Tottenham and will pay it to appease Antonio Conte.
A Spurs source told Football Insider last week (29 June) that the two clubs are just £1million apart in their valuation of Spence after a breakthrough in talks Daniel Levy and his Middlesbrough counterpart Steve Gibson.

Boro originally wanted £20million for the 21-year-old who caught the eye on loan at Nottingham Forest in 2021-22 as they won promotion to the Premier League via the play-offs.
“If you have your eye on somebody, and you’re not too far off, a £1million is a drop in the ocean these days when it comes to football clubs,” Whelan told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.
“It’s probably of more value to Middlesbrough to get that extra £1million than it is for Tottenham to lose it.
“Whether that’s all in add-ons or half of it is paid and the add-ons are £500,000, the deal will be done.
“It doesn’t seem it’s too far off. If you really want a player you are not going to be squabbling over £1million these days, especially not Tottenham. They’ve got plenty of money there to spend.

“It’s important that they get these signings right. He’s a really good young player. I’ve seen him at Forest a number of times now and he’s exciting and that sort of player that Conte wants.
“When Conte wants something he usually gets it.”
