Tottenham news: Harvey White set for new first-team Spurs role after deadline-day decision

Harvey White is set for an expanded role in the first team after failing to leave Tottenham during January.

That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

As per Dan Kilpatrick of the Evening Standard, Antonio Conte blocked a potential loan move for White, 20, on deadline day.

The same report claimed Hull, Luton, Sunderland and Portsmouth were interested in taking the midfielder.

Wenham revealed on 8 October that Tottenham turned down loan offers for White last summer and he expected him to go during January.

Wenham now expects White will be handed a larger role in the first team during the second half of the season.

“We have lost a few players who would usually make up the bench,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“The likes of Bryan Gil and Alli. That’s why this potential loan move for White didn’t happen.

“It is frustrating for his personal development that he won’t be out there playing week in week out.

“But you never know when opportunities may arise. He could make five to seven to 10 minute cameos in the Premier League before the end of the season.

“That increases his value and keeps him training with the first-team squad.

“He could stay or maybe secure himself a full-season Championship loan like Oliver Skipp did last season.”

White has made two senior appearances for Tottenham.

He has made 20 appearances for the Under 23s this season, scoring seven goals and chipping in with seven assists.
