Tottenham star dazzling at Euros tells friends he wants to join new club – sources

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has told friends he wants to leave Tottenham this summer to be a first-team regular at a new club.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed the Denmark international is telling the club he is keen to leave before the transfer cut-ff.

Football Insider revealed last month Hojbjerg has hired a new agent to help him find a new club this summer as he wants to secure more regular first-team football elsewhere.

Although Postecoglou named the 28-year-old in every Premier League squad last season, he only made eight starts and came off the bench 28 times.

Hojbjerg is believed to be keen on a move to Serie A, with AC Milan, Juventus and Napoli all expressing an interest in signing him this summer.

He is featuring for Denmark at the European Championships this summer and was one of the outstanding players on the pitch in his team’s 1-1 draw against England on Thursday.

Tottenham to sell Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg after lack of minutes

Former Tottenham star Paul Robinson explained the midfielder hasn’t made any secret about his desire to leave Spurs after growing frustrated about his lack of playing time.

“I think Hojbjerg will be one of those that goes,” he told Football Insider.

“Postecoglou is restructuring the dressing room and Hojbjerg hasn’t made a secret of his desire to play regular first-team football.

“He said it in a press conference when he was away on international duty last season that he wants to play regularly and more often.

“Hojbjerg did a fantastic job when he played last season.

“I think when Tottenham have tried to be more pragmatic and defensive, he’s occupied that deep anchor in midfield and protected the back four.

“He’s still a very good player. Is the Premier League too quick for him? Would La Liga, Serie A or Ligue 1 suit him better? I think it probably would.

“I think Ange’s high press and tempo is maybe a bit too quick for him.

“I think he will be one of the players that move on.”
