Tottenham news: Pundit 'staggered' by source's 'massive' reveal as Declan Rice claim made

Noel Whelan has tipped Yves Bissouma to make a “massive difference” to Tottenham ahead of his £25million move from Brighton.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, admitted he is “staggered” by the 25-year-old’s price tag and suggested West Ham should have considered him as a replacement for Declan Rice.

A recruitment source told Football Insider on Wednesday (15 June) that Spurs have agreed a £25million deal for Bissouma, having been quoted £40million when they enquired last summer.

A medical was pencilled in for this week for the midfielder to complete the move.

Whelan admitted he was blown away by the lack of competition for Bissouma’s capture.

“The price tag staggers me,” Whelan told Football Insider’s Russell Edge.

“£25 million for that quality of player? When you’re looking and talking about defensive midfield players in the Premier League, I think he’s up there with Kante, Declan Rice, Kalvin Phillips. He’s at that level.

£25million is an absolute snip and I think he would make a massive difference to that Tottenham side.

“I am staggered that other clubs are not looking to bring him in, I really am. I think he would probably be your next replacement if someone like Declan Rice went.

“He’d be someone I think most supporters would be over the moon with if he was a replacement for any of those top midfield players that I’ve just spoken about.”

Bissouma has a year left on his Brighton contract, forcing the Seagulls to consider cashing in.

He has 111 Premier League appearances under his belt to date.
