Sources: Super League chiefs to host Brussels summit after Tottenham stance revealed

The organisers of the Super League project once backed by Tottenham will soon hold a summit in Brussels and are showing no signs of halting their aggressive PR campaign, Football Insider has learned.

Many predicted that A22 Sports Management would hit the brakes after the European Court of Justice preliminarily ruled in December that Uefa and Fifa are entitled to punish clubs that join breakaway competitions.

But in a statement sent to Football Insider by the Spain-based company after the ECJ news emerged, A22 claimed they are optimistic of a positive judgement when the full verdict is delivered in the spring.

A22 have now told this site that they will stage a conference in Brussels next Friday (13 January) in collaboration with leading law firm Clifford Chance, with an abundance of pro-Super League luminaries listed as speakers.

Among them are former Belgian deputy prime minister and advocate general of the ECJ Melchior Wathelet, as well as other eminent figures from politics, academia and business.

Spurs were one of six Premier League teams and 12 in total to sign up for the Super League in April 2021.

The likes of Liverpool have publicly stated that their stance towards the rebel competition has not changed since they pulled out amid the unprecedented fan backlash that immediately followed.

Tottenham refused to do the same when contacted by Football Insider in November last year.

Real Madrid, Barcelona and Juventus are now the only clubs publicly committed to the project.
