Tottenham next manager race takes twist as Marco Silva betting odds slashed

Tottenham Hotspur could be set to appoint Marco Silva in the summer after his odds of taking over were slashed.

The Fulham manager is expected to leave at the end of his contract this summer, marking the end of a five-year tenure at Craven Cottage.

Various clubs have reportedly sounded out the 48-year-old, but the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium currently looks to be his likeliest destination.

There is still much to contend with this season for the Lilywhites, however, with the threat of relegation still very much alive.

Interim Tottenham manager Igor Tudor is expected to manage the team until the end of the season, with there currently being just a one-point buffer to the drop zone.

Marco Silva to Tottenham odds slashed

Football Insider exclusively revealed last month that Nottingham Forest are considering Silva in the summer, with the manager’s future perhaps set to be decided by the relegation battle.

It has felt for some time like the Portuguese manager was due for a move to a club with more financial power, after several strong seasons with Fulham.

The Cottagers had been known as a ‘yo-yo club’ in the years before Silva, coming up and going down again in four consecutive seasons under Scott Parker.

But since coming up as champions in the 2021-22 season after appointing the 48-year-old, they have stayed in the Premier League.

And they have not just survived every season, Fulham have established themselves as a mid-table Premier League team, finishing as high as 10th in the 2022-23 season.

This season could still be the one in which they record their best top-flight finish since 2012, with only one point separating Silva’s side from ninth.

It looks as if a key decision awaits decision-makers in the summer, however, with their manager ready for a new challenge.

One major bookmaker has slashed Silva’s odds of taking over at Tottenham to 10/1 in recent hours, while Mauricio Pochettino remains the favourite at 2/1.

What Silva has said about Fulham future

Silva has been tight-lipped on his future, with contract negotiations likely still ongoing behind the scenes.

Fulham will attempt to convince the 48-year-old to sign a new deal until the final moments, although they may well be fighting a losing battle.

Speaking in November, he said: “They [the Fulham board] know I love being at the club, they know I’m not an easy guy to deal with all the time. They recognise the job everyone is doing.

“The will and desire is there, let’s see what the news will be, nothing new for now. I know what the club needs to develop, to grow. We have to all be on the same page to help the club progress.”

A lot of time has passed since then, and there appears to have been little progress made. With several clubs looking for a new manager this summer, Silva’s decision may already have been made.
