Tottenham plan to spend big on ‘marquee’ signing as whispers intensify – sources

Tottenham are planning to spend big on one “marquee” signing this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

A potential mega signing would be supplemented by other less expensive deals as Ange Postecoglou looks to revamp his squad heading into the transfer window.

Sources say Spurs could smash their £63million transfer record they paid Lyon to sign Tanguy Ndombele in 2019 to land a stellar forward signing this summer.

There are whispers the north London giants are biding their time before submitting a “huge” bid for Newcastle United star Alexander Isak.

But there have been no indications the Tyneside club are willing to sell the Sweden international at this stage following his outstanding form last season.

The 24-year-old is under contract at St James’ Park until 2028 after signing a six-year contract following his club-record £63million move from Real Sociedad in 2022.

Tottenham could make bid to sign Alexander Isak

Isak enjoyed a fine campaign at Newcastle after scoring 25 goals in 40 games as his side secured a seventh-place finish in the Premier League.

That form has drawn the attention of several top clubs, with Football Insider revealing last month Tottenham’s north London rivals Arsenal have added him to a four-man shortlist of potential forward signings this summer.

Newcastle are believed to be toeing the financial fair play (FFP) line again, but they are keen to ensure Isak remains at St James’ Park next season.

Newcastle

Football Insider revealed on 9 June the north-east giants have opened talks with the Swede over signing an improved deal following his impressive form last season.

Bringing in a new striker is believed to be one of Postecoglou’s priorities this summer after Football Insider revealed last month Spurs will consider offers for Richarlison to help fund any potential incomings.

In other news, a new update has emerged on Tottenham’s efforts to sign Morgan Gibbs-White.
