Tottenham player ratings in Chelsea defeat: 25-year-old is 8/10
By Matt Farr
Football Insider rates the Tottenham players during their 4-2 FA Cup semi final defeat to Chelsea at Wembley on Saturday.
Hugo Lloris 6 – Could have done better to keep out Willian’s curling free-kick. Also beaten from the penalty-spot, but hardly tested from open play.
Jan Vertonghen 7 – Had his work cut out in a rare wide position, but dealt with any threat in calm and collected fashion. Didn’t get much help from Son Heung-Min.
Eric Dier 6 – Still looking off the pace as a centre-back. Performs much better as a defensive-midfielder, but not at the front of the queue for selection.
Toby Alderweireld 6 – Responsible for gifting Willian’s free-kick. Not his best game in a Tottenham shirt, but far from his worst. Made several crucial blocks and tackles.
Kieran Trippier 6 – Provided an extra supply outlet in the wider areas, always looking to deliver. But faded after switch to opposite flank.
Victor Wanyama 6 – Always popped up in the right areas, and aware of space, positioning and the runs of the opposition.
Mousa Dembele 7 – Locked in an intriguing midfield battle against N’Golo Kante. Looked to have been winning that battle, despite the result.
Son Heung-Min 5 – Left Vertonghen isolated on the left in a deeper, more unfamiliar wide position. Poor decision to slide in on Moses for Chelsea penalty. Ineffective.
Dele Alli 7 – Had a quiet game before rifling home an equaliser. Movement and link up play was excellent.
Christian Eriksen 8 – Manipulated the ball well. Few better than the 25-year-old at delivering the ball on a plate. Supplied Alli equaliser with one of the assists of the season.
Harry Kane 7 – Pegged Chelsea back with a superb glancing header. Brilliant technique from a brilliant striker. Regularly unsettled the Chelsea defence, but was kept at bay by an impressive David Luiz.
Subs:
Kyle Walker 6 (for Son Heung-Min 68)
Georges-Kevin N’Koudou 6 (for Waynama 80)
