Tottenham handed mixed news on senior quartet ahead of Watford clash

By Amir Mir

Toby Alderweireld has “recovered” from the virus he picked up prior to the Southampton win two days ago and could be available for Tottenham’s clash against Watford on Sunday.

The club also confirmed on their official Twitter account on Friday afternoon the Erik Lamela is still “recovering, slowly”, but Jan Vertonghen and Kyle Walker are suspended.

The senior quartet have not played together since the 1-1 draw against West Brom in October, with Lamela last featuring for his side during the EFL Cup defeat against Liverpool on October 25.

Centre-back Alderweireld missed the wins against Southampton and Burnley in recent weeks but could help his team record a fourth win on the bounce in the Premier League at the weekend.

The 27-year-old has missed a large chunk of the campaign due to injury as he has played only 13 games in all competitions for the north London club.

During those matches, he helped Mauricio Pochettino’s men keep six clean sheets, one of which was against CSKA Moscow in the Champions League.

Spurs have some busy and important matches heading into the new year. First of all, they travel to Watford, then they take on leaders Chelsea on January 4, before facing Aston Villa in an FA Cup encounter four days later.

They are currently one point off Arsenal who occupy fourth spot in the league table and ten points behind Antonio Conte’s Chelsea in first.

In other Tottenham team news, BBC pundit Mark Lawrenson has offered his prediction on Spurs’ clash against Watford.
