Tottenham set for Aurier 'disaster' after latest twist - pundit

Serge Aurier’s time at Tottenham has been a “disaster” and they will be “dying to get him out of the door”, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker

Football Insider revealed yesterday (30 August) Spurs had hoped to sell the right-back before the transfer window closes.

The north London giants have agreed a £25.7million deal for Barcelona full-back Emerson Royal, which has opened the door for Aurier’s exit.

However, the Athletic reported today (31 August) the Frenchman will now stay at the club as no buyer has been found.

Aurier has just 12 months left to run on his Spurs contract and could leave on a free transfer next summer if a solution is not found in January.

With the arrival of Royal, Nuno Espirito Santo will have four right-backs competing for one spot.

Japhet Tanganga has stared all three Premier League games at right-back while Matt Doherty has started in the Europa Conference League.

“It’s definitely a disaster,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“He wasn’t great at Paris Saint-Germain and Spurs rushed into the transfer.

“The amount of points that he’s cost them from poor defending and he’s not even that great going forward.

“For me, it was definitely a disaster signing.

“I’m sure they’ll be dying to get him out of the door.”

Aurier has scored eight goals and provided 17 assists in 110 games across all competitions for Spurs.

However, the 28-year-old has not featured in a matchday squad under Nuno this term.

In other news, another Tottenham player has pulled the plug on a deadline-day exit after a U-turn.
