Kieran Maguire predicts Levy power grab as Tottenham reverse 'huge' boardroom decision
Tottenham can play a “stronger role” in a new-look European Club Association
So says finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider as Spurs reversed the “huge decision” to quit the ECA on 16 August.
Spurs are among nine clubs to have rejoined the group after quitting en masse as part of plans for the botched European Super League breakaway.
Barcelona, Real Madrid and Juventus are all still committed to the ESL and have not rejoined an ECA now fronted by PSG owner Nasser Al-Khelaifi.
In a statement, the ECA declared that “this marks the end of a regrettable and turbulent episode for European football.
And Maguire argues that the absence of Barca, Real and Juve means Spurs could have more power to influence matters within the association.

He told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams: “The ECA is sort of the trade union of the clubs, and it was a huge decision to leave.
“But without those three clubs, Real Madrid, Barcelona and Juventus, there is the opportunity to play a greater part in the organisation.
“There’s no reason why Spurs and Daniel Levy can’t go and play a stronger role now.
“Although, Al-Khelaifi is in a strong position to do things which do the minimum damage to PSG. That will be the way things go forward.“
Tottenham reneged on their decision to join the Super League following a monumental backlash from fans.
Levy later told Spurs’ website that he regretted the “anxiety and upset” caused by the proposal.
