Tottenham set for imminent talks over prolific £60k-a-week attacker deal – report
Tottenham are ready to offer attacker Heung-min Son a new contract, with his current deal set to expire in the summer of 2020, according to a report.
The Evening Standard claims that Son is one of a number of players that will likely be in talks with Spurs between now and the end of the season.
Christian Eriksen will also have two years left on his contract, while Erik Lamela, Mousa Dembele and Jan Vertonghen’s all expire in the summer of 2019.
The 25-year-old has become a vital part of the Pochettino set-up with 13 goals and 9 assists in 40 appearances this season, and Daniel Levy wants to reward him with a new deal.
That makes him Tottenham’s second highest scorer after Harry Kane this season.
It is said that Son’s current deal nets him around £60,000-a-week, with Harry Kane and Hugo Lloris the only Tottenham players currently on six-figures.
Football Insider verdict:
This is well deserved. Son has always struggled to assert himself from the shadows of Tottenham’s high-profile attacking trio, Kane, Alli and Eriksen. Yet his goals have proved vital this season, as they were last campaign when he struggled for regular game time. He’s lost his place in the team to Lamela in recent weeks and he always seems to be Pochettino’s fall guy, but the truth is they can’t do without him. A new deal ahead of the likes of Eriksen and Lamela should convince him how highly though if he is, and Spurs fans will be desperate for him to sign.
