Tottenham star James Maddison reacts to Harry Kane’s ‘hurt’ message

James Maddison reacted to his former Tottenham captain’s “hurt” social media post at Bayern Munich.

Since leaving the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the summer of 2023, Harry Kane has hit the ground running over in Germany, notching 79 goals in 87 appearances across all competitions.

Vincent Kompany’s side looked well on their way to lifting the Champions League trophy for the first time since 2020, with Tottenham fans believing this could bring Kane back to North London to end his career.

However, facing Inter Milan in the quarter-finals was no easy challenge, needing to overcome a one-goal deficit from the first leg, but Kane’s goal could not do that as the second tie finished 2-2 on Wednesday, 16 April.

Harry Kane remains disappointed after Tottenham exit

Taking to Instagram (17 April), Kane wrote: “Still hurting after last night. We gave it everything, and your support was absolutely incredible – felt we did enough over the two legs, but football is about moments.

“Five games to go in the Bundesliga now, every game is a final, and we need to shake this disappointment off and finish the season strong,” gaining support from international and former teammates alike.

Maddison was one of the first to like the striker’s post, with Newcastle United‘s Kieran Trippier, Joe Hart, and Jamal Musiala all joining in to show support for Kane.

Tottenham supporters praying for Harry Kane return

Football Insider verdict

With Ange Postecoglou under immense pressure at Tottenham, the manager likely wishes he had a striker of his calibre at his disposal ahead of facing Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League.

It has been an incredibly difficult campaign in the Premier League, and with Kane’s replacement, Dominic Solanke, only registering seven league goals, Spurs’ attack has lost some potency.

Harry Kane is held in legendary status at Tottenham.

Tottenham are also set to be without Son Heung-min, who boasts the most goal contributions out of any of his teammates this season, so it could be very tricky for the Lilywhites to advance to the next round.

While Kane may, one day, want to return to North London, having spent the majority of his career there, the uncertainty around the manager and the diminishing performances would be enough to put anyone off.

Daniel Levy should certainly be thinking about pulling the rug from under Postecoglou, especially with Thomas Frank, Andoni Iraola and Marco Silva all linked, but he has not yet made a decision.
