Tottenham taking 'big' risk after source's Gavin Bazunu reveal - expert

Alan Hutton has claimed signing Gavin Bazunu would be a “risk” for Tottenham.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs right-back said the club need a keeper with “big qualities” and is worried about Bazunu’s age and lack of experience.

On Monday (15 May), sources told this site that the Lilywhites are hopeful a bid of £15million could be enough to land the Southampton shot stopper this summer.

The London club are pursuing the 21-year-old after an impressive breakthrough at St Mary’s, despite the club’s relegation status.

Tottenham are looking for a long-term replacement for current number one Hugo Lloris who is expected to leave this summer and believe Bazunu is a strong candidate for the position.

But Hutton suggested Spurs need a proven player between the sticks.

I think what Tottenham need is somebody with experience,” he told Football Insider.

Somebody that is going to come in and play week in week out, put in strong performances, deal with pressure. These are all big qualities that you need from somebody that you would have to go out and spend a lot of money on.

It is probably a bit of a risk to go and get somebody so young because they are going to have days where they are a bit up and down, that is part of the learning curve.

It will come down to money but first and foremost who is in charge. Who is picking the targets, what manager is coming in and how much they are going to spend, these will all be factors.
