Kieran Maguire: ‘Incredible’ Tottenham news could pave the way for £250m deal

Tottenham could take a giant step towards a lucrative stadium naming rights deal if they are successful in their bid to host the Super Bowl.

So says finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about dramatic news from behind the scenes in North London.

Per the Daily Mail on Wednesday (9 February), Spurs are lining up a bid to stage the Super Bowl as the NFL look to take the event overseas from 2026.

Tottenham already host two NFL matches annually as part of a £40million-per-season agreement at their 63,000-capacity stadium opened in 2019.

This site revealed in September last year that Spurs are seeking a £25m-a-year naming rights deal over a minimum 10-year period.

And a historic Super Bowl contract could push accelerate the club’s attempts to find a big-ticket sponsor.

“It would be an incredible advert and would certainly help in terms of the naming rights,” he told Football Insider‘s Adam Williams.

“They have gone to great lengths not to have the stadium referred to as White Hart Lane. They want to keep it as blank as they can.

“Nobody remembers Apollo 10 but people still remember Buzz Aldrin and Neil Armstrong on Apollo 11.

“It’s a case of getting the name right at the first opportunity. That’s the key here.

“They are still officially calling it the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium even though most fans still refer to it as White Hart Lane.

“But it hasn’t become as concrete and so that is a plus point with regards to the value of a naming rights deal.”

Spurs’ stadium debt currently stands at £703m.

They posted a pre-tax loss of £80.2m for the 2020-21 financial year as revenues fell from £403.2m to £361.9m.
