‘Tottenham to put Ange Postecoglou out of his misery’ – Sack call amid ridicule

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou needs to be put out of his misery after their January transfer business, according to Tam McManus.

Despite being linked with a number of players including a move for Angel Gomes of Lille, Spurs have only signed 21-year-old goalkeeper, Antonin Kinsky, in the January transfer window.

Injuries have completely destroyed the Lilywhites’ season, and they currently sit 15th, having just lost to Leicester City 2-0 at home (26 January).

Despite identifying two potential internal replacements, chairman Daniel Levy is understood to be keen to stick with Postecoglou for now.

Levy has failed to make any outfield signings so far, and this caused McManus to post his thoughts on X after seeing a line-up of Spurs’ injured players, saying: “And have signed a 21 [year-old] back up goalie in this window [crying laughing emoji] Put Big Ange oot his misery ffs”.

Tottenham fail to improve squad so far in January transfer window

Football Insider Verdict

Spurs put a heavy focus on youth in the summer transfer window, and whilst those players have impressed, there are now major gaps in the squad that need filling.

Lucas Bergvall, Archie Gray and Wilson Odobert joined, all of whom were 19-years-old or younger and look like great prospects for the future. Gray in particular has stood-out whilst filling in at centre-back and left-back because of the injury crisis.

Dominic Solanke, 26-years-old at the time of his move from Bournemouth, was the only senior player signed, despite links with Eberechi Eze from Crystal Palace.

Spurs’ failings to strengthen, and add numbers, to their squad now looks to have been a massive oversight from Levy, as the team struggles to keep up with the rigorous style of play demanded by Postecoglou.

What is even more puzzling, is despite the gaps in the squad caused by fitness issues, Levy still has not signed any players this January, and continues to leave his manager short-changed as they slowly drift towards the bottom of the Premier League table.

In other news, Spurs could be about to accept a huge bid for Dejan Kulusevski.
