Kieran Maguire: Tottenham set to rake it in after official Son Heung-min announcement
Tottenham are set to rake it in after they announced an exhibition match against Sevilla in South Korea this summer.
That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the influence of Spurs superstar Son Heung-min.
Son, who captains the South Korean national team, shared the Premier League Golden Boot with Mohamed Salah this season and is widely regarded as one of the best players in England.
The 29-year-old was mentioned specifically in the announcement on Monday (23 May) of the friendly at the Suwon World Cup Stadium.
The club claim to be “the most well-supported overseas soccer team in South Korea”.
Maguire explained why Spurs’ summer plans in the country will prove lucrative thanks to the buzz generated by Son.
“Son is a brand in his own right,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.
“Anyone who has visited the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium will know he is incredibly popular with South Korean fans. That turns into monetisation from the club’s point of view.
“South Korea is a wealthy country with a lot of disposable income. They make a lot of money from merchandise, shirts with his name on and so forth. So, it makes sense from a business point of view.”

Son scored 24 goals and provided 10 assists in 45 appearances in 2021-22.
Tottenham Women also have So-hyun Cho on the books, the most capped Korean footballer of all time.
