Tottenham to sell £20m-valued star after offer rejected – sources

Tottenham Hotspur will sell Emerson Royal this summer despite rejecting an offer for him in January, sources have told Football Insider.

That is according to Football Insider journalist and transfer expert Daniel Bowers, speaking to Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast.

Spurs rejected an offer for Royal from Al Nassr in January, but talks are advancing over his departure this summer.

Football Insider revealed last month month the club will now accept an offer in the region of £20million for the 25-year-old.

Spurs want to sell Royal and re-invest the money to sign a young right-back who has the potential to develop under Ange Postecoglou moving forward.

The Premier League side will be looking for a fee of £20million for the defender, which is a reasonable fee the club can then reinvest back into the team.

Due to defensive injuries last season, Royal did feature regularly for Spurs, making 22 Premier League appearances.

The right-back has played 101 times throughout his spell with the club, and with his contract expiring next year, Spurs have told him he’s free to find a new team this summer.

Italian giants AC Milan have a strong interest in Royal, and there has also been contact from Saudi clubs about a potential deal.

When it comes to summer recruitment Tottenham’s focus is on the attacking side of the squad, with Postecoglou “obsessed” with signing a striker in this window.

The Spurs boss wants to bolster his attacking options, while the club is also working on securing a new contract for Heung-min Son.
