Tottenham told to agree record-breaking Harry Kane deal after source’s ‘extraordinary’ news – pundit
Noel Whelan has insisted Tottenham must break their wage structure to keep Harry Kane at the club after the “loyalty and performances” he has given the club.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed Spurs would end up paying through the nose for a replacement should the 29-year-old leave the club.
Football Insider revealed on Saturday (26 November) that Tottenham will have to offer Kane an “extraordinary” new contract trumping his England teammates to keep him.
The Three Lions captain is currently earning £200,000-a-week – considerably less than Raheem Sterling (£300,000-a-week) and Jack Grealish (£350,000-a-week) are earning at their respective clubs.
Kane, who has been widely linked with a move to German giants Bayern Munich, is currently under contract until June 2024.
He has scored 13 goals in 23 appearances across all competitions this season.
When asked if it was worth breaking Tottenham’s wage structure to keep Kane at the club, Whelan told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “I think it is.
“Look at him now. He’s still scoring goals, his work rate is still high – and he’s still one of the best strikers in the world.
“Personally, I think with the loyalty and performances he’s given to Spurs – he’s worth every single penny that he asks for.

“Whether Daniel Levy will be prepared to do that is another thing. But if you lose a player like Harry Kane, where do you replace him?
“You’re probably going to have to pay even more in fees and wages to get someone else in anyway. It’s well worth it.”
