Tottenham told to seal signing of star ‘better than Declan Rice’ after source reveal – Robinson

Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips would “fit in” at Tottenham, according to Paul Robinson.

The former Spurs and England number one, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, heaped praise on the 26-year-old who is “better than” West Ham talisman Declan Rice.

Phillips‘ future at Elland Road is uncertain heading into the summer transfer window.

A recruitment source told Football Insider (16 May) that Newcastle United and Aston Villa have made Phillips a top target and are both laying the groundwork for potential deals.

The centre-midfielder has just over two years remaining on his contract with the Whites.

When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for his assessment of Phillips’ future, Robinson said: “If Leeds go down Kalvin Phillips will not be there.

“Even if Leeds stay up, there will be no shortage of takers for Kalvin Phillips. He’d fit in at Spurs.

“He was England’s best player last year. His quality is unprecedented. I think he is better than Declan Rice. He offers more going forward than Rice. His energy, his engine and his creativity are there for all to see.

“Leeds will struggle to hold onto him this summer if a big bid comes in.

“Phillips will be going to the England camp and see his teammates playing in the Champions League and competing for top honours. It is only a matter of time before he wants that as well. He is good enough to do it as well.”

In other news, Kieran Maguire has claimed Tottenham will be ecstatic as Uefa U-turn could provide ‘£150million’ boost.
