Tottenham told to sign major Lloris upgrade after source’s talks reveal – pundit

Hugo Lloris is not the “goalkeeper he used to be” and Tottenham should sign an alternative who can be the number one for the next decade.

That is the view of ex-Aston Villa and England attacker Gabby Agbonlahor, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after a major update on the goalkeeper’s Spurs future.

A club source told Football Insider on Saturday (11 December) Lloris has opened talks over a new long-term deal.

The club captain’s current contract is set to expire at the end of the current campaign.

The 34-year-old wants to be part of the new era under Antonio Conte while Spurs do not want to lose an experienced campaigner.

He could sign a pre-contract agreement with a foreign club in a matter of weeks due to his current contract status.

Asked whether it was a good idea to reward Lloris with a new long-term contract, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “I wouldn’t, to be honest.

“I would look at a new goalkeeper who’s going to be the number one for the next 10 years.

“Lloris is not the same goalkeeper he used to be, he’s getting on a bit now.

“But if Antonio Conte likes him, I’m sure he’ll get it done.”

Lloris has started all 14 of Spurs’ Premier League games and has kept six clean sheets in that time.

He has retained his place this season despite the arrival of Pierluigi Gollini from Atalanta on a loan-to-buy deal over the summer (2021).
