Tottenham are set to consider offers for centre-back Toby Alderweireld in the summer, according to a report.
The Evening Standard also claims that the club are confident that they will keep hold of all the players they want to.
The report goes on to say that it is increasingly unsure whether Alderweireld is a player they want to keep hold of.
The centre-back has so far resisted all Tottenham efforts to get him to sign a new contract as he looks for a wage increase that would put him level with Harry Kane and Hugo Lloris.
The report claims they are both on more than double Alderweireld’s £50k-a-week.
Spurs have the option to trigger another year on his contract, which would take it to 2020, but this would invoke a clause that would let the player leave for £25.4million in 2019.
Alderweireld was said to have had a two-hour meeting with Pochettino last week as he sough assurance on when he would come back to the first team after an injury lay-off.
Football Insider verdict:
This isn’t what Tottenham fans want to hear. Alderweireld is one of the world’s best defenders but there seems to be a rift between the player and Pochettino at the moment. He was left out of the Champions League squad to face Juventus amid claims that he was still seeking full fitness after his injury lay-off. But Tottenham are in a delicate position with his contract and they might prefer to sell him than risk losing him for a price way below market value next year. He would fetch a lot more than £25million at the moment.
