Tottenham’s owners have to put more cash in amid financial uncertainty – Keith Wyness
Tottenham’s ownership are looking at putting as much money into the club as they can in order to help their financial situation.
That is according to ex-Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, after the north London club released their financial figures.
Spurs could be facing an issue with cash flow, as the club recorded their worst ever pre-tax loss of £121million.
Their operating costs also rose, despite record revenue, in concerning figures if the club were to be relegated to the Championship this season.
Spurs’ revenue would be hit in the Championship, with the club looking to avoid that outcome in their final six Premier League fixtures.

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes Spurs’ financial problems “would come home to roost” in the second tier.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness thinks Spurs’ owners will have to pump more money into the club.
| Revenue | £565.3m |
| Commercial Revenue | £277.1m |
| Matchday Revenue | £126.5m |
| Loss After Tax | £94.7m |
He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “Now they’re coming to the conclusion that the Lewis family are looking at having to put in whatever is required.
“They’re going to have to put in more cash in terms of equity and that’s the way they’re going to have to do it. But it is very interesting that they’ve been borrowing forward, which a club like Spurs never did before against the TV money coming in.
“So it is a bit of a cash situation that is the main focus. The debt should be manageable but certainly in the Championship all those sorts of things would come home to roost to a degree as well.”
New details emerge in Cristian Romero contract
Sources have told Football Insider that a release clause in Cristian Romero’s Spurs contract makes it more likely the defender will leave the club this summer.
Romero’s clause means he would be free to leave Spurs for between £37.8m and £53m, with many clubs in Europe interested in agreeing a deal.
The 27-year-old could be part of a mass exodus at Spurs this summer, with manager Roberto De Zerbi set to have to rebuild his squad.
