‘Tottenham’s Thomas Frank deal is absolutely worth it’ – new details emerge

Tottenham are closing in on a new manager after it was announced that Ange Postecoglou had been sacked last week.

Football Insider exclusively revealed at the start of the month (1 June), that Spurs were set to dismiss Postecoglou, and the news was officially confirmed in a club statement last week.

Daniel Levy has begun the search to replace the Australian, and Football Insider revealed on 7 June that Tottenham are closing in on the appointment of Thomas Frank.

Spurs will have to pay £10million to Brentford to release the Dane from his current role with the Bees.

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – has had his say on whether Spurs should be splashing the cash on the Brentford boss.

‘Thomas Frank is a bigger asset than any Tottenham player’

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted Frank is well worth the £10million that Tottenham will have to pay Brentford.

The Dane has spent the last seven years in charge of the Bees, guiding them to promotion from the Championship in the 2020-21 campaign before helping them stabilise in the Premier League.

Brentford finished 18 points clear of Tottenham in the Premier League in the 2024-25 campaign.

Wyness complimented Brentford for adding a “clever” clause and expects more clubs to follow suit in the future.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I think Frank is absolutely worth the money.

“This brings up the bigger question though, about what managers are worth.

“I’ve been in the position to have hired a number of managers and it always surprised me that they were never considered to be like players, as assets.

I know from experience that those couple of weeks or however long it was without a manager feels like the longest period in your life. The club is rudderless, and you’re lost.

It may not be too far to see even a transfer window coming up for managers and I think that’s always been something that should have been there.

“Clubs should not be able to interfere with managers during the season and maybe there should be a transfer window for them as well.

We’re going to see a growth in the quality managers, in terms of their value, and I think Frank is a good example of this and Brentford were clever enough to put in the right clauses.

Frank unlikely to sign Brentford stars for Tottenham

Meanwhile, Football Insider exclusively revealed (10 June) that Frank is unlikely to bring any of his Brentford squad with him when he is appointed as the new Tottenham manager.

Sources say he has “no immediate plans” to sign any of his Bees side, despite admiring the likes of Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa.

Mbeumo is set to join Man United, after choosing Ruben Amorim’s side over the likes of Newcastle and Spurs.
