Success from Sporting CP combined with inexperience is ‘costing’ Ruben Amorim says Alan Pardew
Speaking on talkSPORT (14 September) in the aftermath of the Manchester derby defeat, the ex-West Ham United manager gave a scathing review of Amorim.
Pardew did not hold back on why the former Braga head coach has struggled to adapt to life in the Premier League at arguably the biggest club in the world.
Discussing his lack of managerial experience at rigidness in tweaking his tactics, he said: “You’re talking about a very inexperienced manager here. He hasn’t managed for long in his career.
“And in his career at Sporting CP, right, he turned around a team with this system and had massive success. There’s no doubt about that.
“Hence why he’s the Man United manager. And I think the inexperience is costing him a little bit. I think he’s trapped in that Sporting CP success.
“‘It brought me success, this is how I’m going to implement this here’.
“It’s such a big club, such a huge environment for a Manny [Manchester] manager and he was saying today how different his job is to Pep’s [Guardiola] for example in terms of profile, it is.
“It’s just all-encompassing in terms of the media so, I just think, he needs a technical director to sort of nudge him a little bit rather than sack him.
“Say ‘Amorim, look, you’re going to have to change, you’re going to have to get your head around it a little bit’.
“That Sporting CP model isn’t going to work here with these players. Rather than go ‘let’s get rid of him and get someone else in’.“

Pardew eluded to a criticism of Amorim that has followed him throughout his spell at Old Trafford with his inability to adapt.
Since his arrival in Manchester, the Portuguese’s wing-back system has been found out time and time again with little imagination to eliminate the weaknesses.
The excuse for last season’s disappointment would have been the incorrect personnel to try and carry out in his footballing philosophy.

However, after significant investment in the summer transfer window there is little room for complaining as the former Sporting CP boss wields a more than capable squad.
Yet, the players still look unable to operate in Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 system which has greatly hampered the prospects of winning matches on a regular basis.
Put simply, the Portuguese must swallow his pride and admit his structure is not cut out for the Premier League and must think of a new method to pick up more points.
