Trevoh Chalobah: Chelsea star surely next in line for new contract after Reece James deal
Trevoh Chalobah has proven his importance to Liam Rosenior and the Chelsea hierarchy during the 2025-26 campaign.
The 26-year-old has started 29 of the Blues’ 30 Premier League matches this season, becoming an integral part of the squad since returning from Crystal Palace during the last term.
However, the central defender has suffered a new injury that could keep him out for the next six weeks, and Rosenior’s side are likely to feel the consequences of his absence during that time.
Chelsea’s transfer plans are already taking shape, with Reece James being tied down to new terms at Stamford Bridge, and Chalobah’s future should be the next to be sorted out.

His current deal is set to expire in the summer of 2028. While that seems quite a long way away, in terms of contracts at Chelsea, it is one of the sooner ones to run out.
It has been reported that Chalobah is on £50,000-a-week, with the likes of Estevao, Robert Sanchez and Benoit Badiashille slightly above him in the pecking order right now.
To put his salary into context, Wesley Fofana, who has played just 63 games since August 2022, earns a base pay of £200,000, which is upwards of £10million per year.

Given how vital Chalobah has been in the centre of defence this season, especially under Rosenior, he definitely deserves to be on more, and a new contract would help seal new terms.
Liam Rosenior has already made his feelings clear about the Chelsea star
Football Insider understands that Rosenior wants to keep Chalobah at Stamford Bridge amid interest from Aston Villa, but it remains to be seen how the player feels about a move.
The Villans may be able to offer him better terms ahead of the 2026-27 campaign, and the only way Chelsea can discourage the player from making a move to is to offer him better money.
He absolutely deserves to be on a salary that reflects his importance to the team, and if Rosenior is already requesting that the 26-year-old is not sold, he can use that to his advantage.
Supporters want to see as many academy graduates thrive at Stamford Bridge as possible. Chalobah has been one of their outstanding performers this season, and that should be rewarded soon.
